An Account of Names

Looking out over the shadow that creeps over my home
In the darkness my home is at home
Imperceptible to eyes and ears, to fingers yet not the nose
I can’t hear it’s heart beat in this neighborhood
I can’t hear it’s heart beat with all the love around like sirens
In a quiet night
I’ll never find a bed in you again
I’ll never find a home of you but in my head
I have only memories smoldering and wet with the advent of safety’s hose
Let forth the deluge of my housing salvation
Let it fall gently upon my toys, my clothes
Let the battle between water and fire
Take place elsewhere
So I can save the unspent bullets from the battle
And bury my dead in a pack ratted grave
Soft yellow sun of day pours brightly only the char of night
Hush shadows fall beneath it’s light
I scrawl my name upon it’s ledger
To keep an account of names
This was the battle between water and fire
That raged atop the hill
Here lies the names of all who came before that flame
And will come again someday
